Let the terrible twos begin (Ella’s 2nd birthday)

by on Feb.25, 2009, under Uncategorized

So two years ago, Dani and I were doing some shoppin’ at the local grocery store when she decided that the Dominion would be a good place to start the whole baby-delivering-process… Look, I understand that a grocery store could be a pretty convenient place for having a baby… everything you need for the birth is in one place: paper napkins, hot water bottles, fresh fish, produce, chips and ring-o-los, broom handles to bite down on, the list is endless… but I’d much prefer the bigger grocery store that has tvs and movies and viddy games than our little local one which only has old copies of Cosmo and Canadian Living. Side-note to self : a grocery store might also be a good place to hide in case of a zombie attack. I digress…

So there we were, pushing around our cart full of food and I hear… “oh oh…”… splooosh! “Clean up on aisle 4”!

“You aren’t going to get into the van all wet like that are you?!” says the winner of the “sensitive-hubby-of-the-year-award” (don’t forget I’m also recipient of the “Do-you-know-where-your-toddler-is-award”)…

Well, she DID get into the van all wet like that *GASP* but that turned out to be a good thing as we were soon holding our brand new baby girl (and besides, there really are 101 uses for baby wipes).

Ahhhh good times… well, that was the tale of her first day of life. And this is the tale of her 730th.

Dinner!

Ella got to pick her favorite meal for dinner... keh-pup (ketchup)

They say it's your birthday... happy birthday to you

FIRE DADDY! FIRE! HOT HOT HOT!

Ok there pal, you just stand there with your camera... don't you worry about this fire over here, I'll put it out...

Snowbird pit stop

by on Feb.17, 2009, under family

Ever year we have the distinct pleasure of hosting my parents for an evening or two as they pass through Oakville on the way to the sunshine state.

The following pictures chronicles their passage and the debauchery that ensued during their visit.

They are always quite helpful:

Helping Ella with homework

Doing the Sunday crossword

tickle fight!

As always, they come loaded with gifts and good snacks for the kids:

cookies

kinder eggs

nutritious cereal

Hey Eric, you missing some flips?!

On Sunday morning, it was time for a quick jaunt through the provincial park.

pousse Grandpapa, pousse!

Hey goat! You live in a barn? I directed Entourage! Say hi to your mother for me.

Ella: what.is.that.thing?

silly photo time

ah... a good ol tire swing

The Big League

by on Feb.05, 2009, under family

When he was a kid, he’d be up at five
Take shots till eight, make the thing drive
Out after school, back on ice
That was his life, he was gonna play in the Big League

Enough with the photos.. can we go yet?

"Let's welcome the incredible iceman, who slices his enemies limb from limb into quivering bloody sushi - Professor Sub Zero!"

who put this chair right in the middle of the rink!?

Tron Hockey!

Et le but!

Sometimes at night I can hear the ice crack
It sounds like thunder and it rips through my back
Sometimes in the morning I still hear the sound
Ice meets metal…
“Can’t you drive me down to the Big League?”

My boy’s gonna play in the Big League
My boy’s gonna turn some heads
My boy’s gonna play in the Big League
My boy’s gonna knock ’em dead

Tom Cochrane

Special thanks to Chris and Ethan for having us over… and to Mr. Dave for being so entertaining.

Surprise lunch visit.

by on Jan.30, 2009, under family

One of my fondest memories as a child is my Papa picking me up from school for an appointment (which was usually the dentist) and then having a delicious and nutritious McD or BK lunch… YUM!

Choo choo!

Well, with all the bosses away in London this week, I decided to take a little bit of extra time for lunch and take my little dude out for lunch. Wait… bosses don’t have time to read blogs, right?!

No peeking!

Best Saturday this week!

by on Jan.22, 2009, under family

As you french Canadians know, Saturday mornings are meant to be sloooooow.

Step 1. Lounge.

Step 2. Coffee.

Step 3. Lounge.

Step 4. Read the paper (well, the Canadian Tire, Best Buy and Future Shop flyers).

Step 5. more lounging.

Saturday mornings are also meant for BIG BREAKFASTs. This one was no different. Except for my co-cook. Here’s how it went down… I’ve started to use Twitter as of late and one of my fav Tweets is an excellent cook called PinchMySalt (I’m sure that’s not her name but you get my drift). Here’s her site: http://pinchmysalt.com/

Anyways, she twitted about making a sour dough, ham and egg stratta and it sounded awesome so I decided to make my own. Mine was to be made with day-old buns, ham, egg and a mix of mozza and 6 year old white cheddar. I began gathering my stuff when I heard that lovely little voice…. “Help daddy?”

So for the first time, Ella helped make breakfast… (only took her ~2 years to start pitchin in… slacker).

and help she did...

...future Nigela?

a little cheese for the dish... a little cheese for Ella

After 30 mins of baking:

the masterpiece!

And just before we eat, a little time for silly…

food is good, silly is better!

Who invited this guy!?

eeeeek!

eeeeek!

and here’s what Reese was doing this whole time…. seeing him enjoy his weekend morning cartoons is SO nostalgic.

anything better than Saturday morning Transformers? Didn't think so.

Winter Wonderland

by on Jan.18, 2009, under family

Hurray… more snow!

Time to bundle up the kiddies and take to the wild outdoors.

First, we have a job to do. Grab your shovels and your brushes and let’s clean off the driveway:

Use the brush side on the paint please...

Little pink shovel

Now it’s time to play!

Vroom,vroom, vroom

Hmm, the park looks different this time of year...

Peek-a-boo!

by on Jan.17, 2009, under family

So this is the incident that gave me the inspiration for the blog.

Dani was off taking photos of some celebrity somewhere and I was busy putting clothes away and doing regular end-of-day cleanup. Quick peek at the clock tells me it’s about time to start herding the cats kids.
Wait a sec… Reese is watching TV but Ella is being quiet… too quiet. So, off I go to find her.

I search and search but to no avail. She wasn’t in her room playing. She was not in my room watching TV with her brother. Was she at her colouring table? Nope. Colouring ON the couch? Nope. In the kitchen looking for scraps? Nope. In the bathroom putting lipstick on the cat? Nope. My calls of “Ellllla, Eeeeelllllaaa! ELLA!” became more and more frantic and I could feel that father-of-the-year award slip right out of my fingers.

At long last, I heard a giggle. Ella? Giggle. Elllllla? Giggle giggle. Turns out she had plans to play a little game of Marco Polo. I finally tracked down our little explorer in her room:
Boo daddy!

Boo daddy!

and so a new game began… close closet door. BYE! Open closet door. BOO! Close closet door. BYE! Open closet door. BOO! Giggle and laugh until your stomach hurts. Repeat as often as possible

Best game ever.

Best game ever.

20 minutes of BYE!BOO! and we were all tuckered out. Wave buh-buy Ella!

Everybody wins at this game!

Everybody wins at this game!
